Really terrific book: I've been wanting to read a book about this subject from this perspective for a long time, and this was exactly what I needed. I will be thinking about this for some time I expect. I need to read more books by Dallas Willard.

I always expect good things from Dallas Willard, but I wasn't particularly interested in this book because I've heard plenty of sermons & lectures about hearing God's voice. When the audiobook was offered for free, though, I had to download it. I'm so glad I did! Willard's treatment of the subject is deeper and more scriptural than any I have ever encountered. It both affirms my own experience of hearing God's voice and offers excellent guidance in teaching others how to hear God. I can't wait to listen to the rest of the book.

So good. I will definitely be listening to this book more than once.

DALLAS WILLARD IS BECOMING ONE OF MY FAVORITE AUTHORS, AND THIS BOOK IS DEFINITELY WORTH THE READ! WILLARD REALLY LAYS OUT THE IMPORTANCE AND PRACTICALITY OF HAVING A CONVERSATIONAL RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD.

WILLARD RIGHTS: "FAITH IS NOT OPPOSED TO KNOWLEDGE; IT IS OPPOSED TO SIGHT. THIS BOOK PROVIDES A LOT OF KNOWLEDGE ABOUT HOW GOD SPEAKS TO US. SO THAT WE CAN HAVE FAITH IN HIM SPEAKING TO US!”

I read this book with my Bible study and it was a great read for us all. It was challenging and well written. I liked how Dallas Willard blended practical advice for hearing God speak into your life while also providing a theological understanding of how He does/does not do this. There is no formula for this, but Willard provides ways to develop this aspect of our relationship with God. The most frustrating part of this was the author's style of writing at times--being very detailed and a little confusing. Some of his examples were odd too, but this was definitely worth the read.

A beautiful book. I wish someone had given this to me, or better yet, taught me its principles 10 years ago when I first began struggling with the concept of knowing God.

Don't know how much this lines up with biblical prayer. A lot of his examples I don't think can be so easily transferred to the modern world. I think examples of Moses and prophets like Jeremiah aren't necessarily applicable to us just because of the difference in role they played compared to us today.

Just a bit dated and convoluted for me.
