Loved it.
When will T. Kingfisher write something I don't love? Probably never? I'm too in love with her voice. The wit, the quirk, the humor. *grabby hands*
I am also in love with these two characters: a mousy perfumer and a disgraced paladin. Both are gentle in their own way. I love the way Grace perceives the world--through smell. It was fascinating. This certainly felt like a romance as plot A, but the plot B was superb, too (and disturbingly creepy). I loved how normal the world felt, even though it was a unique and different world filled with other creatures and magic. That's what speaks to excellent worldbuilding to me.
Anyhow, can't wait to read the rest of this series!
