So I really don’t know how I feel about this book. I gave it four stars, but I’m not sure I even agree with that five minutes after finishing this book.

The book was so funny! I couldn’t stop laughing and I’m sure I’d laugh rereading quotes I read just yesterday. The family was so cute and felt like a real family with troubles and quirks added in with the love.

And Eli. He’s perfect. Don’t let the back cover fool you (which is literally full of lies) into thinking he’s “Satan’s Helper.” His negative actions can completely be explained by a need for therapy, which he got!

My problem with this book: Whitney. She sucks! I really liked her in the beginning. She felt relatable and realistic as a disillusioned millennial who wants love but has given up on it after having her heartbroken too many times. Then, after I realized how perfect Eli is, I realized that she blamed him for their breakup when in reality, it was completely her own fault for not realizing how traumatic both of his parents dying THREE YEARS EARLIER would be to a 21 year old! Then when she laughed while he was having a baby’s diaper-induced panic attack, messed up!

Moral of the story? Eli faced so many hardships and grew to be the perfect man while Whitney acts like a 13 year old who has no concept of trauma. So really, I’m giving this book 4 stars because of everyone but Whitney.

This wasn’t a sappy holiday romance but it was a great holiday romance. If you like second chance romance, this was perfect. It isn’t my favorite genre, because I spent most of the book thinking that Eli didn’t deserve Whitney until I was proven wrong.

Overall a good Christmas book, that unfortunately left me feeling a little underwhelmed.
Except for a few (especially Serena), I absolutely loved the characters and their dynamics, and loved discovering Whitney and Eli's story.
My main issue with this book was the pace, which sometimes felt off.
I still enjoyed this book a lot, and I'd definitely recommend it if you're looking for a steamy second-chance romance set during Christmas time.
