This book was so stupid. It was more or less supposed to be a "cautionary tale" about being nice and using manners and honestly no child who reads this is going to take that from this book. The only redeeming thing about this book is that the characters were bearable. I have definitely read some questionable characters in my goosebumps books and these characters were far better than others.
Now my big problems. I have read many goosebumps books in my day whether as a child or a teenager/adult and this was so boring. It felt like nothing happened because really only 1 thing happened. It didn't have that goosebumps vibe that the rest of the books have. Basically these children were turning into chickens and they themselves said "oh this is fine nothing to worry about" and then did nothing to try and fix this until it was almost entirely too late. Also these 2 main characters were objectively the nicest ones to this "witch" and they were the ones who got cursed instead of literally anyone else in this book. This book was just so bad compared to the rest of them.

"Horse horse." Are you feeling a little horse, yet? No? I didn't think so. Saying the name of an animal twice in a row isn't much of a magic spell, is it?

A wonderful high school friend gave me this book as a sort of cringe gift. He called it the “worst Goosebumps book ever.”
He was right.
Nothing about this book works. Goosebumps parents are always incompetent, but these parents didn’t react to their children turning into chickens. The story concludes on a moral messaging that’s incongruent with the narrative. Several chapters end on cliffhangers and jump scares that are either fake outs or are resolved within a paragraph. Just a mess. Not even fun bad. Just bad.
I’m keeping it forever.
