I listened to the audio book narrated by Colby Minifie which I think played a huge role in how much I enjoyed this. I have a feeling if I read it myself the main character’s and/or writing may have seemed a little childish and confusing. However, I’ll never know. I think the audiobook really added a lot to the experience. The story is woven with multiple different levels of metaphors which made me feel like I was lost in my own head and really unsure what direction the story was going. Is it supernatural? Is it psychological? Both? And when I thought I knew and mentally snuggled in for the story, I would become uncertain which way it was going. (which I love!) For most of the book I felt like I had brain fog and was as confused as the main character. I don’t know how much of that was real brain fog (since it is a symptom of a condition I have lol) if it was because it was an audio book and I am not an auditory learner, if it was counter transference I was receiving from the main character, or if that is the actual intention of the author. I would be really interested to see how it is when physically reading. I *think* it was the intention and the audiobook heightened that sensation for me. But either way, that feeling is what made the entire experience. The atmosphere of the book is misty, smoky confusion and repression during Autumn in Ireland. The witchy poetic way the main character and her friend see and talk about the world  only adds to all the mystery and brain fog. And the narrator  either has or uses an Irish accent making the story feel further away from reality to me (from the states) And me gaslighting myself into not knowing  if the foggy feeling was from the writing or my POTS is extremely ironic and amusing because self doubt and general confusion over reality and what the heck is going on is the main theme for the main character. This is SUCH a perfect story for autumn and I had a great time listening to it.
