Audiobook (All of my entries on The Story Graph are audiobooks.)
#3 in series (I started reading this series on 9/4/22.)
Will I read other installments?Probably Not Maybe Definitely I will commit to this series henceforth.
Comparison to others in series: Not as goodAbout the same Better I admit that I'm confused with the ending of this book. Most story lines were summed up, but I missed who killed . This book was steeped in anti-Catholic feeling, but deserved for the circumstances presented in the story.
The narrator was Susan Ericksen. She was a bit shrill in some spots of the V.I. drama.

This series does nothing but improve. I really like Vic. Good characters and a good plot that makes sense.

Started the audiobook and didn't realize it was a recording of a radio show. Didn't get past first chapter. Maybe the book is better.

I didn't like V.I. at first. When I met her in the first few pages of the book, I was afraid I'd be stuck with a main character that I hated. Because I didn't like how mean and sarcastic she was. She spoke so harshly to people, it was weird for me. I was afraid that I wasn't gonna root for her. But then she grew on me. I actually enjoyed her brashness because it was so opposite of how I would act. It was interesting. Also considering the time period of the story and the people's mindset at that time, I just made myself understand her situation.
It was weird for me having to read about the church getting involved in a mystery but I guess that's just me being a Catholic-Christian.
The family dynamic really got me interested because I am sort of dealing with something akin to V.I.'s. Having to care for a family member even if you don’t want to. So I guess this was a solution at a time of being an obedient child and little sister, I learned to stand my ground and go my own way like she does.

One of her better books. I thoroughly enjoy these, but I have to admit they become fairly predictable after reading a few. Whether that's because of insight into the author's mind or blandness, I can't say.

Another solid V I Warshawski story, though some recurrent themes and motifs are already becoming evident after only three novels. Might be a while before I try another, to give the series some time to become fresh again for me.

A highly overrated book. Expected rather an active yet a deductionist type or a sensible detective but V.I. Warshawski, the lead female detective, disappointed me. She may be a hardboiled detective but her actions in crucial matters are utterly questionable and looks lunatic. Not a book I'd recommend.
