This book is disgusting and I love it just as much now as I did in freshman year of high school.

So I finally finished this book... I needed breaks every hundred pages or so, not my favorite Anne Rice but I didn't hate it.
And just for the record- Lasher has nothing over Lestat, I mean come on the guy can fly, I think that trumps flowers any day...

This could easily have been THREE separate books.
The book could have been much more interesting if it had been written differently.
I was finally settling in and liking it up to the last part. What the actual hell is that ending. Things couldn't have gone more nuts than that. Wow.
(I got a hint of the ending, told myself "no fucking way," but yeah. Yeah, it happened. so, I stopped with 75 pages to go. This is not an uplifting book.)
(Should have just decided to leave this as one book instead of making this crazy move and leaving an end to pick up from I AM SO UPSET FOR SPENDING SO MUCH TIME ON THIS BOOK)

"In this engrossing and hypnotic tale of witchcraft and the occult spanning four centuries, we meet a great dynasty of witches--a family given to poetry and incest, to murder and philosophy, a family that over the ages is haunted by a powerful, dangerous and seductive being." (From Amazon)
Too incestuous (and therefore confusing to keep track of family tree) for me to read after awhile. I don't even what to describe it...lol.

So. Much. Incest.
The lush descriptions of New Orleans were really excellent. But all in all, this book felt like someone took a long-winded work of historical fiction and spliced it together with a few frantic pages of incest and rape fantasy writing. Capped off with an unsatisfying ending.
