I liked the art a lot. The story was pretty good. I do still feel like graphic novels lack too much complexity for me.

Kaidan, son of King Gorlan, was training on his aunt's watch. When he returned to his kingdom, has found it destroyed. He faced a group of outlaws that helped him find his father's belongings and try to know something about her mother.
Kaidan with an Authentic sword, Robin as head of the outlaws, and an owl with hoofs in size of an elephant. Did they remind you of something?

The Orphan King by Tyler Chin-Tanner, James Boyle (Illustrator) was a creative, fast-paced retelling of King Arthur, Robin Hood, and a little of Fantastic Beast! I am looking forward to the next volume, curious about what will be happened.

Thanks to Diamond Book Distributors and Netgalley, I have given an honest review of The Orphan King by Tyler Chin-Tanner.

A solid graphic novel! The story was well paced, the artwork was perfect and interesting. The characters were well fleshed out and each given the time to shine in such a short graphic novel volume. I’m very excited to continue! I love the pieces of history and mythology that were weaved within the story and I can tell volume 2 is going to be a lot of fun.
If you enjoy retellings inspired by the King Arthur story, I definitely recommend this graphic novel.

Thank you to Diamond Book Distributors for providing me an e-copy of this graphic novel to review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I am not sure, I would consider this an Arthurian Legend retelling. At least not from what I gleamed in reading this book.

But I found this incredibly interesting to read, I honestly was on the edge of my seat reading this because of the twists and turns it kept leading me down.

I look forward to learning more about Kaidan's training under Lady Taleissa and how he grew during this time.

I am hoping to be able to continue reading this series.

I have so many unanswered questions. A good intro though.

A fun adventure story. Prince Kaidan is sent away from his parents, the King and Queen, to train and live with his aunt in the Isle of Women. When he returns to his Kingdom four years later things are not how he left them.
This is generally fun and exciting. I would recommend it to kids who enjoyed Mighty Jack and Amulet but are looking for something older now. The pacing and art are very good, but it doesn't bring anything particularly new to fantasy/adventure graphic novels. I found the Robin Hood-esc characters to be distracting because I couldn't tell if the comparison was intentional or not.

When he was young, Prince Kaidan was sent to train with his mysterious aunt, in an island full of training women, and though this might sound weird, they’re actually pretty awesome, almost like amazons.

Unfortunately, when years go by and he returns to his land, he finds out that the kingdom he once knew is gone. He doesn’t know where his parents are. And there are a bunch of rebels wanting his head too.

Now, I fully enjoyed this graphic novel. To me it was a nice, fast-paced, action packed, entertaining retelling of King Arthur and Robin Hood, both mixed together.

I really liked the art and how it subtly the coloring changes when we’re talking about the present and the past. If there is an upcoming volume, I’d be happy to read it too!

I received an e-book ARC in exchange for an honest review via Diamond Comic Distributors.
