2.5 stars. I was too annoyed by the drama, it felt like such a stretch a lot of the time, especially Jude’s reaction to finding out about the “keep him happy” thing. It got to the point where I started rolling my eyes, and that’s never a good sign.

The threats and how that was resolved was very obviously just something thrown together in order to bring the MCs together. But I do like the bodyguard/protectee thing a lot, so that was something at least.

Couldn’t put it down and I’ve been struggling my way through a lot of good books lately. Loved Nikolai and Jude!

I’m so ducking lucky to find this author. It’s just that the writing is so beautiful, emotional and hopeful. All the tough shit these characters have to go and be together at the end. It’s so satisfying. The characters are beyond loveable.

Ok...
4 stars for the story
2 stars for the narration.. and that's me being generous

The story is classic Sloane... angst, instalove, some suspense, breakup and an HEA. Hot sex thrown in and it's a good book. Sloane is my catnip and I'm #proud. You know what you expect with her books and this is oddly comforting, at least when you have an idea of what you want to read.

Nikolai and Jude are lovable, relatable and hot together. Nikoli and his family are genuinely nice people, who have been dealt a bad hand in life.
Jude hasn't had the best life either and it shows in his adult life. He's desperate to prove himself and works himself to the bone.

All in all, it was a good book. Not her best, but good.

Now the audiobook....
It was BAD. Dude... I may have finished this book sooner if it weren't for the narration. I've tried several, audiobooks by Mr. Dean... and he is not for me. This will be the last audiobook I'll try by him, and it's really sad because alot of my favorite authors use him exclusively. Bummer...
You know a good narrator has to at least use the basics...
- different tones
- holding an accent
- pausing at a period

I didn't expect this book to tug at my heartstrings but it did. The love story between Nikolai and Jude is so sweet and sexy, despite the ups and downs along the way.

Nik takes his job as a bodyguard so seriously despite his attraction to Jude, the high-powered exec whom he's supposed to protect. The no-nonsense way Nik conducts his business lands him in trouble at first, but soon he proves his merit as you can't really be too careful, especially knowing that someone's after your client.

On the other hand, Jude dismisses every other attempt of needing protection until he realizes how susceptible he is to danger, being so close to one of the richest man on the planet. It was fascinating to see the layers peel off Jude, as his icy, cold exterior melts to expose his vulnerabilities to Nikolai.

The way that Nikolai and Jude understands each other without needing a lot of words, was at first endearing until this very trait end up almost costing them each other. But with a little push, and a few fibs from a certain old man, made both of them realize the importance of seizing opportunities as life is too damn short.

While I did dock a point for the somewhat-rushed and supposedly-climactic ending, there were a lot of hallmark moments in the book that made kept me interested.
