Souls is the second book of Cora's story! We see Cora's relationship with Echo grow. We see Echo open up more to Cora about his past life. We also see how much Echo adores Cora and how he would do anything to protect her even if it means asking other Grimnirs for help. Cora has learned how to deal with souls and she also has found a way to help the souls before being taken to Hel's Mist. But who is this dark soul that that keeps coming around and isn't trying to possess her?

Oh my days-I started this Book almost a year ago! πŸ€¦πŸ½β€β™€οΈπŸ˜… I blame an epic reading slump! πŸ™‡πŸ½β€β™€οΈ
Anyway, I'm still really enjoying this series-& this one was the continuation of Cora & Echo's story, in NA form. πŸ‘©πŸΌπŸ™‹πŸ»β€β™‚οΈπŸ’ž I can't say too much more, as it's part of a series-But all of the expected drama involving Love, Family, Friends & Souls is back! πŸ˜‰
I'll definitely continue reading this series-Witches is the next one... ✨

Like Runes, this one starts off a little on the slow side, and the plot builds slowly. There are a lot of elements to the plot, so the slow build up is a good thing. It allowed me to keep track of who everyone is and what they all are. The last quarter of the book was a snowball of action and mayhem. Gods, reapers, valkyries, lost souls, dark souls and in the middle a whole bunch of regular teens.

I like this series and think it's well worth the read.

Cora is feisty, mouthy, compassionate to others and yet irritably vulnerable towards Echo. Still, what I like about her is that she tries to live her life and do her part in aiding her mythological friends by using the very curse (or gift depending on how you see it) in order to help souls.

Yes, souls.

How does she help? Well, she lets these souls possess her one-by-one, temporarily be able to write their final will so that Cora would be able to give it to their families. By all means, she gives them the resolution they need before Echo reaps them.

And because all souls see Cora as a beacon, she attracts all kinds of souls. And where there are the healthy and sick ones, there are also the dark souls. These souls have been switching from one body to another, whether it may be an animal or human body. Because they crave what a corporeal body can provide (to feel, love and be loved), they become addicted to possessing, leading them to lose the very core of who they are, making them shapeless, wandering souls.

And Cora decided to help one.

Cora is still learning how to use her runes and develop new ones. She still helps souls gain closure but the arrival of dark souls shakes things up and makes her doubt her abilities. Echo is still awesome and protective and we get to see more of his love and that he would do anything for Cora-mio.

"I'm the beast, mean and ugly, and you're the only one who makes these things seem insignificant. With a kiss and a touch, you make the meanness and ugliness go away. With your love, you calm the beast inside me. So yell at me all you want when you're pissed. Throw things at my head. Maybe I'll yell back or throw you over my shoulder, cuff you to my bed, and make love to you in ways you couldn't possibly fathom, but you could never, ever hurt me. You are the light in my darkness. The hope chasing away my despair. You are the keeper of my soul."

I love how intense Echo is and that Cora accepts him for who he is.

Also fell for Dev and want to know more about him and how his story turns out. He's noble and deserves a happily ever after.

I can't wait for more of Echo's and Cora's story!

Now, to the review and what you really need to know....ECHO
Yeah, Echo. This may be Cora's book but what I really wanted was more Echo and I got him! But...we will come back to him in a minute, let's talk Cora right now.

Cora is exactly who you expect her to be in this book. She's the girl that fights for what she believes in, fights for those she loves, and fights for those who can't fight for themselves. She is a wonderfully written strong, independent female character. Incredibly sweet and kind with a side of bad ass and a whole lot of snark and sass. I've thoroughly enjoyed watching her grow from Raine's side kick into her contemporary. She's been thrust into a scary world and is making it work for her. I love that she doesn't see the world as right or wrong, she's willing to be a voice of reason, listen to all sides of a story and not give up on someone based only on what she has been told by others . Yes, she knows there is evil out there and we see plenty of it this book, but instead of giving into the fear of evil or even perceived evil she's willing to fight for what she knows is right even if it means she has to fight against the very people who are trying to protect her.

This installment of the Runes series advances Cora and Echo's storyline. We get to know a lot more about Cora's immortal-ness and Echo's past. I love Echo and Cora and their epic romance, I can never get enough. I really liked that the other Runes characters were more involved in this book as well. I am totally intrigued by Cora's last day at school and all that business (which I will not mention) and I want to know more about that. Love this series, love this off-shoot series. Can't wait for the next Runes book.

this was a great follow up to the story of Cora and Echo. I loved the way Cora is adjusting to her life as a new immortal. What I really liked about it was how we can see the seemingly same events from Cora's and Raine's POV. Loved the whole series, spinoffs
