Great book. A nice story with female leads and was captivating the whole time. Easy writing style and had a nice flow.

Within the first few pages of "The Giver of Stars," I could tell the author, JoJo Moyes isn't from Kentucky where the story takes place. Looked it up, and Moyes's home is far from Kentucky as she's actually British. So it maybe doesn't feel as authentic as say "Demon Copperhead," but it's still good, and I think it does a commendable job of representing the area and its people. Moyes clearly did her homework. 
The characters are fun and complicated yet believable. The story is slow to start but gets going and doesn't stop with entertaining dialogue, characters, and plot. Overall, a fun yet eye-opening novel.

400 pages of cliches. This read like the screenplay of a Hallmark movie. I fully lost it at the scene in which the violent crowd outside the courthouse was calmed with song. 2 stars for the drama in Alice's marriage and because libraries are cool.

I loved this book. Any book that compels me to binge read it and forget about all my other obligations gets 4 stars. It gets 5 stars if I feel like I need to take a break to digest and recover before I start another book. This book was a fantastic story about women with grit. I agree that literature is a way to transcend your present surroundings and a porthole to a future of possibilities. I loved the added richness of female friendships and relationships built on equality and true love. I’ll be hanging onto this one for my daughter.

The whole time I was listening, I swear I'd already listened before but I don't know if I had or if this book is SO much like "The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek."
