You will go "wait, what the hell" about a million times, but it's all worth it in the end when it comes together!

I liked this book. I liked it a lot. The writing was great and the story was interesting and it feels like a crime to give it less than 4 stars. However.
Harrow the Ninth was such a departure from Gideon the Ninth that for most of the book, I had a hard time getting into it. I loved Gideon so much as a character, and while I missed her, I was excited to learn more about Harrow. But I really didn’t. I mean, sorta kinda, but it was all overshadowed by my least favorite trope of all time: amnesia. It all came together in the end (in the most confusing and dramatic was possible) but because of this I felt lost and frustrated for most of the book. I think that’s how I was supposed to feel, but after the fun humor and mystery of GtN, it felt like a letdown. I didn’t care about the characters in HtN the same way I cared about the characters in the first book. Overall, I felt confused.
I do plan on reading Nona and Alecto, but I think I need several business months to process HtN before I even attempt to dive in to even more confusion.

giving it 4* for now because i need to reread it first. reading this was very confusing and after finishing it, i understand why. i find myself liking gtn more mainly because of gideon, that’s not me saying i don’t like harrow btw!! gideon’s presence in gtn made it more fun.
for 70% of the book, i had so many questions (which were eventually answered), but it did feel like i was just overloaded with info and i kept stopping at random paragraphs (my fault really).
i’ll update again once i’ve reread this.

I quite literally hated everything about this book. There were so many words for absolutely no reason and every character had a different nickname every page. It was like she put used a plot randomizer for every chapter. I have Gideon a 5 star so I’m just gonna treat it as a stand alone

Wow. I don’t know how to feel. But that was amazing. I was confused for a lot of it but worth it in the end. ( although I am still confused
