this book kind of felt like a kdrama or a telenovella with some of the themes and characters, but it wasn't unserious and over dramatic like most of them are

overall i liked it, the writing was great! the author lets you think about the subjects brought up in the story without divulging her own answers or opinions

i would have liked for some of the relationships in this novel to go deeper, or to learn more about the characters, some of them were very well developped on the page while others not as much. but at the same time i understand why it was like that so idk

maybe a sequel about izzy would be fun to read

This read was really refreshing to me. It was so enlightening to be able to sort of dive into each individual character and find out how they intertwined with one another. Celeste did a fantastic job at weaving the characters together, to unfold a deep and enriched quilt of a story. I am glad that I took the time to challenge myself with this read.

This was such a wonderful book. Celeste Ng has a beautiful way of writing morally grey and complex characters in situations. It is rare that writers create stories with such nuance.

Celeste Ng does a fantastic job of bring every character to life and diving into the complexities of different relationships and conflicts. These characters bring to life topics like race, adoption, and class divides.

I enjoyed the themes of motherhood/class/race that plainly interacted in all the characters lives, whether they were aware or not. Felt like the fire didn’t tie into the story as much as I would have thought.
