Just wasn’t a fan of this storyline. I don’t really like Cinderella - I think her character is overly brash and the writers are trying too hard to make her badass and snarky (which is rare with female characters, but definitely possible to do). For that reason, I’ve never really connected with her. This storyline vaguely interested me but didn’t compel me, which is unfortunate. Snow’s appearance was my favourite thing about it really.

The story of Cinderella takes on a new twist as the story of the Fairest continues.

This is a trimmed down version of my review, to view the full review visit The Book Ramble.

After a series of attacks by mice-men Cinderella is called in to investigate, after all her fable is full of mice. Cinderella pursues the Fairy Godmother who created the original mice-men only to get tangled up with some of the Indian Fables who have also met up with these mice-men. Who's really behind the attacks? And how will it affect the oncoming war between Snow and Rose Red?

I really enjoyed this volume of Fairest, it was definitely a lot better than the previous volume. The story was really interesting, and tied in well with what's happened in the most recent Fables. I loved the art, all the issues about Cinderella always have awesome art. It was a bit weird to have a Fairest entirely about Cinderella considering she had her own series before, but it fit well. This volume really just fits well into the whole of the Fables-verse and makes a good transition between Fairest and Fables.

The plot in this arc is really great. The assassin rats were really interesting, as was their backstory. I think it was interesting to get the insight into Cinderella's backstory a little more as well. The movement of the story was easy to follow and really enjoyable, mixing flashbacks and ongoing events together smoothly.

This is another volume where there are lots of old characters being brought back into the game. The 3 Blind Mice, Fairy Godmother, and some of the other characters haven't been heard from in a while, so it's great to see them reintroduced as the series winds down.

I loved the art. As I said the issues of Fairest and Cinderella featuring Cinderella always have great art. The artists that work on this series always do awesome stuff with Cinderella and I really love it. The cover was a little disappointing to me compared to the last volume. The individual issues have great covers except really for the one used for the volume cover which is just bland. I think the character design in this was also pretty cool, especially Cinderella's stepsister.

I really enjoyed this volume of the always awesome series Fairest. Check out Fairest, Fables, Cinderella, and all the other Fables-verse content. It's great!

disappointing. basically all the same problems as from fables with love; with the strands of sexism pervading a comic that's ostensibly about women. i have some masochistic attachment to fables but i should really stop reading the cinderella stories at least, they're almost invariably worthless

This one was a quick one-hour read. It may only deserve three stars based on the story but I was so happy to see this volume focus on more of the female characters in the Fables/Fairest world that I was feeling generous.

I got a little lost somewhere along the way. Who is Brandish again? And when did the Fairy Godmother go crazy? I wonder if skipping the Jack of Fables series messed me up.

The art is gorgeous, as usual. Maybe Brandish wasn't as recognizable for switching artists, but it was still well done with some flavor of anime.

The big thing that I loved was that the story started with Snow, moved on to Cind, then had the Fairy Godmother and a little Rose Red in there. The male characters of Marcel and Rama were truly secondary. Adding an affair between Rama and Cind was interesting as was the temple of Rats.

In all, this should probably be a three star review. The story part of this volume was light, but at least the writers stuck to the female Fables this time. Perhaps it's time to consider bringing a female writer into this female-led series? The storyline of this volume didn't need to be this light. I love that Cind takes her pleasure where she can get it and move on, but they have Cind acting like Prince Charming did in the first few volumes of Fables. Women don't "love 'em and leave 'em" like men do. Or, at least their motivations aren't the same. There is more story there that could be written because Cind doesn't seem like a flat, callous man-user to me. Give her more story and more depth and this could be a legitimate 4 star review rather than an overly generous one.
