I read this book as I run a book group for children ages 8-12. I enjoyed it much more than I expected. I read books for adults, YA and tend to only read kids books if they're graphic novels

I don't know if it was because it is written for a younger target audience or if I was enjoying it so much but I flew through the book in a day

Archie Crumb is a young carer for his mum (she is unwell, it isn't stated directly but it seems like depression). His dad has a new family. He has a lot of responsibility for an 11 year old.  Life's just a bit rough for him all round

When he goes flying off his bike and knocks his head, he is granted 9 wishes by his favourite footballer. Alongside the input of his friend Mouse, Archie has the task of figuring out what to spend his wishes on

Some of the wishes backfire a bit and don't make his life as easy as he hoped they would

By the end of the book, Archie grows in confidence and is able to stand up for himself a bit, telling the adults in his life what he needs from them so that he doesn't have so much on his shoulders

This book was enjoyable, light-hearted and funny at times whilst dealing with some tricky topics. Has a great message behind it and I would recommend to children and adults alike!
