I love watching Kyoko prep for a new role and make it hers, but all of the conflict here felt like it was truncated—set up and then cut short. Struggling with samurai training, being rejected before the audition, a director who hates talentos, Morizumi’s scheming…everything was pretty easily resolved. Even the paparazzi photo of Sho kissing Kyoko, arguably the most interesting thing in the volume, was brushed aside and basically ignored. I hope this is all a set up for the future because, if it’s not, it’s a symptom of a story running out of steam.
