To be fair, I’m not really a fan of romance poetry. I was going out of my comfort zone and became discomforted.

Only one of the poems in the whole book resonated with me. If it wasn’t such a quick read I would’ve dnf’ed. The kindle edition formatting is horrible, too.

I honestly expected this book to be a tad different, surely not as full of rancorous emotions and sexual content in some poetry. I would have enjoyed if the poems were in somewhat of an order

This was the only collection I hadn’t read yet and it didn’t disappoint. Her poems hit every time I read a collection. One of my all time favs!

i snuggled in bed after a long day today and read this book! :) it consists of four chapters of small poems. its goal is to touch on "love, loss, trauma, abuse, healing, and femininity". this book was both written and illustrated by Kaur and self published in 2014.

some passages made me feel a pit in my stomach in the first chapter, where topics can be very heavy, so trigger warning for abuse, sexual assault. caution if you're under age, maybe skip this one.

i like how cut & dry the feelings of the author are displayed but the poems are too short and simple for my personal preference. with two stars i'm not saying it wasn't enjoyable: i enjoyed reading it! »» 2 stars means it was okay. it's very clear the author poured their soul into these poems. her poems read like thoughts.
personally i do wish they were a little more "edited". for example, i wouldn't mind if the book didn't include those really simple poems like: "i have / what i have / and i am happy / i've lost / what i've lost / and i am / still / happy" cuz those really lowered the quality of the book for me.

passages that i wanted to see more of from Kaur: "the only reason you know / you're still alive is from the / heaving of your chest". "perhaps / (...) / i am paying / for sins i don't / remember". "bloom beautifully / dangerously / loudly / bloom softly". "he had the smell of / starvation on his lips" "every time you / tell your daughter / you yell at her / out of love / you teach her to confuse / anger with kindness".

i can see why this book is attractive to those who can unfortunately relate to Rupi, to survivors of abuse and negligence or suffocation and i think the author has great potential!
