some poems are very raw and detached, others are more kind and self-forgiving.
Every women should read this book. Loved it!

I bought this book on a trip in NYC after raving reviews of a friend about how amazing it was, and after seeing the book itself all over my instagram.
I started reading it as soon as I bought it and was ready to have this awakening to poetry and be moved by beautiful and eye-opening verses. But to my surprise it was not all that. My first read was all the way through to The Healing which I left unread until now.
Four years later, the end of a personal chapter in my life, I decided to give the book another chance and reread / finish it (finally!), and so I did. Sure the story of the book is challenging and makes oneself question their past, self worth, and place in the world as well. But I found myself yet again going through the book asking myself what people found in it that I can't see. In my opinion, the book was simply over-ratted and kind of full of quotes you can find on coffee cups at Goodwill, or on Pinterest. (eg. you are your own soulmate, people go but how they left always stay, you've touched me without touching me)
Overall, finishing the part The Healing as I am starting a new chapter in my life had a nice ring to it, and I'm glad I finished the book. It wasn't for me but I'm sure I will take something out of it and who knows, maybe a few years from now I will re-read it again and finally be touched by it!
