When four friends travel from Spain to France to work a harvest, their worldview is crumbled by the experiences they are subjected to and places they find themselves.

This book reminded me a lot of Holden Caulfield although I’m not 100% sure why. I guess it’s that kind of dejected way of looking at life through a pessimistic lens combined with a general lack of interest in consequences. This book was much more raw and less affirming than Holden though. It was written in a semi-stream of consciousness style mixed with journal entries and treated the reader as if they weren’t worldly enough to understand it at times. The author’s disdain for the reader at having not had this terrible experience made it an interesting read simply because it’s unusual to feel that kind of anger seething at the reader through the pages.

I don’t even know what to think of this. Was it well-written? Yes. Did I enjoy it? I guess? Was I even supposed to? This book just kind of…was. And that is neither good nor bad, which is why I award it three stars.
