I was about to walk away from this book halfway through, but the magical twist pulled me back in! This one was fun to listen to via audiobook but not super memorable.

DNF @ 42%.

I really wanted to like this but it was just so cringey.
I went to London/Wales when I was 21 for a class and reading this made me look back and realize I was way more mature then I ever thought because compared to this MC, my maturity level was off the charts. She. is. STUPID. who knocks their chair over every time they get up? or unknowingly slams their glass down? or thinks walking to the grocery store with someone is a DATE. .

Like I said, I really wanted to like this because I follow the author on SM. but I can't do it. Life is to short to read books you don't like with a towering TBR pile of books you will like.

3.8????
This was a great debut novel with a lot of heart, and comedy! I’ve seen this mentioned before but Shane is definitely just Christine and that’s totally fine because she’s an entertaining protagonist to follow. While I found Shane to be a fully thought out character, I cannot say the same for the rest of characters. Pilot was an alright romance, but seemed like every other hot guy love interest in YA. I wanted more from Babe and the other roommates but I enjoyed what we got from them. The parents in this story...specifically the Dad was really disturbing at times (you know the scene when you hit it). Additionally, I would have loved more resolve with certain situations that dealt with the family.

Loved:
•the travel details during the first half
•the overall message of the novel
•construction of the novel into the two parts and Shane’s character growth
•quick read that keeps you interested throughout MOST of the story
•audiobook has excellent narration

Meh:
•at some points Shane is just obsessed with Pilot and it’s weird and annoying(side: Pi’s is the ugliest nickname ever—I’m listening to the audio so it just sounds hilarious)
•it’s hard to tell at what point cute banter becomes full blown love between the characters. Feels more like infatuation with one another?
•the straight up disregard for cheating??

Overall, I did enjoy my time with this book! I would give it a try if you adore romance.

Too quirky, too much emotional cheating, and too many references to Harry Potter. It was fun to hate read though.
