A brilliant and subtle addition to the Magic: The Gathering novels. 'Ashes of the Sun' is no longer 'canon', but Braddock does more than merely animate a few cards and inject them into a standard fantasy outing, he gets at what memory is and what it means to grieve for and honor the past. It also gets into the reasons for war and cautions against a too-rigid interpretation of right and wrong.
It's astonishingly deep for a tie-in fantasy novel.
