So many of these stories DEEPLY resonated with me. Such a range of Black experience & a wide range of stories regarding Black trauma, shame, and healing.

a number of famous African-Americans (writers, social justice folks) explore issues in their lives around vulnerability, and shame. The many ways that white supremacy culture has impacted Blacks, and the importance of finding ways to heal and be in community.

So much here. I was surprised at how much I related to what the authors were saying, the ways in which a trans/queer experience echoes it (I've seen this before, in poetry) while keeping in mind, always, how it doesn't. My copy is heavily underlined and I am keeping it on hand for reminder and for determination.

I’m so grateful for anthologies like this. I felt heard, seen, & empowered. Loved through their words and connected to inner voices that I think of as my ancestors. A beautiful audio book that i will continue to return to over the years

Vulnerable, raw, human. There were so many jaw dropping moments and quotes throughout this book. I admire Dr Brené Brown and I’m grateful for her ongoing work to be more intersectional with the discussions of how trauma and shame manifest in our lives. This was a great way to do just that. I’m grateful to all the authors and their strength in sharing their stories.

ALTAMENTE RECOMENDADO.

Lost interest in the subject matter. Not a bad book, just not for me at the time. May pick it up again later.
