My favorite scene in this book was on Page 103 (interaction between Butch and Vishous)
B: "I am praying for your eternal soul."
V: "Don't bother."
B: "Come on, don't you want to go to Heaven?"
V: "I wouldn't know anyone up there. And don't get too prissy with that religious bullshit, true? I don't want to spend an eternity without you, so you need to come to Dhunhd with me."
B: "Will they have milk duds there?"
V: "yes, but they'll all be melted together. And we'll be surrounded by Yankees fans, televangelists, and no booze."
B: "We'll think of some way to pass the time."
V: "We always do."

While I am not a fan of these legacy novels, I enjoyed this one a lot. I liked this one because unlike the last several BDB books, the author only had a couple of major plotlines going. Normally, Ward has a gazillion characters with too many things going on that its a clusterf**k.
There was a clear hero and heroine, they were developed fairly well and I got to really follow the mystery. I didn't suspect the culprit so the surprise was a plus.
This was one of the better written stories with likable characters so I was rooting for them as outcasts to find comfort in each other. Then Butch featured heavily but as a detective more than as the Dhestroyer.

I docked this story half a star because I didn't get a satisfactory backstory about Boone's father and his lover. I wanted more as to the actual cause of Boone's mother's death.

average rating: 2,6

characters: 5/5 homosexuality rep, strong and relatable female lead, male protagonist with an interest in literature and just being nice and wishing for a family

relationships: 2/5 predictable, cheesy, repetitive, love at first sight

atmosphere: 1/5 majority of the book is written in dialogue, lacking a lot of details about the setting/scenery/appearances of characters/etc., you could sometimes even forget it is about vampires after all...

writing style: 3/5 nothing special but filled with humour and you will fly through Ward's books

plot: 2/5 though a crime plot is rather unique in this series, I was bored throughout and predicted the outcome

logic: 2/5 can't tell much without spoiling but everything obviously turns out very convenient for the main characters when situations become complicated or dangerous, the characters we meet on the way obviously play an important role in the plot later on

enjoyment: 3/5 read those 500+ pages in three days but mostly did not care what happened next

cover/ overall design: 2,5/5 it is a face on the cover, that says it all. inside there is the glossary about terminology as always

im so proud of myself for finishing! it wasn't bad, it just was hard to care about the couple; I had zero connection to them. I liked the crime solving aspect and Butch's chapters
also toward the end I started to fiend for SYN's book the way he was so self destructive..hes so tortured, he reminds me of my beloved Xcor, so I feel like his. romance would be satisfying.

it was weird reading this because this is one of the first romance series I ever started reading and the years long book slump I was in made me fall several books behind. but the last couple books ive read in the world just didn't feel like JR ward wrote them...theyve been missing the magic..and this book made me wanna stop reading the series indefinitely. lets just hope I made the right decision in continuing Sync character has given me hope

Written very differently than the other stories in this series.

Loved the main characters, Boone and Helaine. They were sweet and cute. While the romance had some steamy adult scenes, compared to most of the BDB & BD Legacy stories, this one was Mellow.

Loved the role that Butch took in this one. The mystery and suspense sent my mind spiralling. Butch really showcased his skills in the detective department. This 'case' sent us on one heck of a ride trying to figure out who the serial killer is.

There were a few things that bugged me. We didn't get a real answer on a certain connection I noticed between Boone and another character. Yet that connection seemed showcased to me. I felt like some conclusion to that should have happened.

The other thing I found odd is the amount of editing/typo errors in this one. They aren't enough to hinder your enjoyment of the story, but they do stand out. You will definitely notice them.

I really enjoyed the change up in the way the story was written and can't wait to read the next.
J.R. Ward did not disappoint me in any way.

Okay. This was Probly one of my least favorites of the series. I just felt like the pacing was off and the plot wasn’t as interesting. However..

Can we talk about how disappointed I was that Boones mansion didn’t become the new place of residence for all the legacies?? Just like the brotherhood on the mountain? Think about it. It would be so cool to have all six legacies, the other two shellans, Rochelle and the baby??? Then thomot would be the legacies version of fritz? It would be so perfect. Tell me I’m not the only one who needs this to happen?
