This was not it for me. I really wanted to like it, because I love romance and I love books with diverse characters. But I simply could not believe that the social hierarchy is THAT important, nor that these enemies to lovers didn’t think they could date. Like way too obvious, no real hurdles to overcome. And I love rom coms!

as a 27-year-old i knew going in that i wouldn't care for college-aged romantic conflicts but this is what book club chose. love Weruche Opia's accents for the characters though

Feels a tad YA because it's supposed to be
And the FMC annoyed me slightly but overall a very sweet book and I loved reading the Nigerian inclusions? (I can't recall the word rn) and the unfamiliar slang

At first it was hard to get into, but I couldn't put the book down after 50% read. Loved it.

This book served its purpose at a difficult time in my life - it was just the right read for that season and provided much needed escapism into an alternate reality. I doubt it would have read as well if it wasn’t for that. I also would have appreciated a read like this when I was 19 years old (almost 20 years ago!) - it would have saved me a lot of heartache in my 20s to have had a role model like Kiki. Ultimately though, I am not the target audience of this romance, and I’d insist on it being YA minus some of the raunchier bits.
