An interesting concept but a disappointing execution. The story wasn’t woven very well and lacked depth and development throughout.

I really don't know how to feel about this because on one hand I was engaged with the story itself, but on the other I hated so much of the content.

I 100% could not believe it when it was a decent part of the way through the book and it said that Leetle is 28. I couldn't believe that, she read so much like a bratty teenager, I was positive she was gonna be like 15, she was so annoying and bratty and stubborn, I couldn't stand her. This overall kind of read like YA. Which doesn't mean the writing is bad, YA writing can be incredible, but when it's an adult fantasy and it reads like YA and all the characters seem so much younger than they are, that is bad writing. It felt like the author was given a checklist of tropes and was told she had to fit every single one into the book.

And both main romances were so poorly executed. How did Yeeran (which, by the way, I listened to the audiobook and it sounds like her name is urine), go from hating Fury (??? again I listened to the audiobook, I don't know how you spell her name but it sounded like Fury to me), and being desperately in love with the Chieftain from the elven land, to being in love with Fury? There was zero development there. If it had gone in the direction of just lust/attraction that would have made sense to me, like Yeeran could have hated her but still been attracted to her and that would have made sense, but no she just immediately loves her? And worst of all, Fury loves her too??? Makes NO sense, Yeeran killed her brother and she hated her so much for that, she wanted her dead, and then suddenly she just doesn't care about that at all. Terrible development.

And Leetle and Rayan is even worse, they've known each other for weeks and they're irrevocably in love with each other? You literally do not know each other, she's all like 'no I can't love him, I'll kill him' and then she's like no actually it doesn't matter I'm desperately in love with him and that's fine. Terrible. I hated Leetle so much anyways I don't even understand what Rayan could love about her because she's so insufferable and childish. It also didn't help that the voice the narrator chose to do for Leetle was really annoying.

But...I was still invested in the story so I'll still listen to the second one on audiobook once I can
