I did not expect to like, let alone love, this book as much as I did when I first started reading it. While the book does follow the protagonist-is-withholding-information-from-me-to-create-intrigue trope, it's not just us that she's hiding from, it's herself too.  This provides the backbone for the strong character development throughout the book as Eleanor discovers who she is. Overall, it is an incredibly well-written, frustrating, funny, and hopeful read all-in-one.

While entirely not what I expected based on the book’s summary, I really enjoyed reading it. The darker themes while difficult to read about were framed by such a charming personality in Eleanor.

Please be advised: content warnings for basically everything.

This book was traumatic. I'm not entirely sure who it's for, because readers who can relate too well to the main character would surely be triggered by this story. And for any readers who can't relate to her, I'm stumped trying to imagine what they would get out of this book.

All that said, it's well crafted, as novels go. And I did read the entire second half of the book in one sitting. All in all, I had a fairly miserable time, and this confirmed for me that I don't particularly like contemporary fiction.

A well written book but it was recommended to me as a rom com and it is definitely not that.

I initially didn't like how judgy Eleanor was but then realized it was because of her upbringing. I found her to be quite quirky yet funny. I loved her friendship with Raymond. He truly showed her what friendship is about, and I am glad they found happiness with each other as friends. The character development of Elenaor was amazing and I liked the way the story was told. The ending was shocking to me!

I can see why many would enjoy this book, but there were definitely parts that were difficult/triggering to listen to. The low star rating is more based on that, I would not read or listen to this book again in the future. I did appreciate the characters, especially Raymond, and the way he interacted with Eleanor.
