I fear I will spend weeks reading and re-reading this entire series. I had four other books checked out at the library when this one became available and I immediately borrowed it and cast the others aside. My excitement was and still is palpable. Love love love

I do have some serious issues with this book.

I feel like even though stuff happens in this book, nothing has also happened. The last book ended with the "We go home to marry"-thing. 500 pages into this book: Have they married? No. Have they even gone home to Atlantia? Still no. They have barely moved. This book could have been shortened a lot. So I expected a lot more from this one. I was so tired of reading about Poppy constantly thinking about wanting him and his constantly appearing dimples but never realizing that she loved him and how she missed all the signs that he loved her and blablabla. I mean...they've literally slept together several times and "it feels oh so good but it would never happen again because it's just an act thing..." It just got so boring in the end.

I expected there would be a lot more pages of the book going to try to free Malik after they came home but since they didn't come home until the very end of the book that of course did not happen.

The ending was unexpected though. But I'm not sure if I will read the last book when it comes out in a couple of months. We'll see.

Finished this book and I did not stop until I was 100 pages into the next book. Bravo, Jennifer Armentrout

Oh my goodness. I need more Poppy and Casteel. That ending…. Perfectly intriguing.

Just disappointing for the most part.

After the first one ended with a HUGE cliffhanger, I was hyped to start this one. The build up and development made me so excited to tackle this sequel. Like yes, bring on a wedding! Yes, bring on the developing enemy-to-lovers romance! Yes, give me more Cas and Poppy! After the first chapter of recapping I was hoping things would start moving, but nah. I was so BORED. FOR LIKE 400 PAGES. Poppy’s inner monologue was worrying about the same damn things, I felt like there were so many repetitive comments and boring banter between characters, and there literally wasn’t anything significant that added to the storyline until like 400 pages in. Nothing new and I was starting to lose hope as I slugged through it. Like I get Poppy had a lot time with her thoughts since she was like captured, but can she at least voice some of these concerns with Cas and like move on with the story? Also, she complained so much that she was still held captive but like what were her alternatives? I mean really, Poppy, think it through, all other options lead to you DYING. So 400 pages in things start to look up and some minor events start happening. Why does the author have to make us suffer for like 3/4 of the book to have something interesting finally happen and then BAM the books over? I’m going to take a wild guess here and say the next book will also cause major boredom for the first 400 pages, have uninteresting, repetitive banter, and also not have any significance to the storyline.

The ONLY thing that saved this at all is the ending. Like literally the last 3ish chapters. Like if you thought the end of the first book was good, this one IS AMAZING. There is still so much unknown about the history of this world and I really hope we finally get some answers in the next one. Also, I just hope JLA adds more substance to the front half of the next book.

I think the main reason people raved about these books is the killer endings. Like I get it, they are pretty huge revelations. BUT if JLA could like sprinkle more throughout, I think I would be able to love this story more.

I said this with the first book...and I'll say it again. I liked this one. Poppy really is starting to come into her own in this book. She is embracing her inner badass and taking control of her life. This one is much spicier than the first book. I would say it's a 4 on the spice scale...we have crossed over from Southern cooking to fully Mexican spicy!

This was another epic installment in Poppys story. The journey that she went in this book is mind blowing. So many new things were revealed and her relationship with the Dark One evolved in this book. I enjoyed the narration and how things were put together.
