I’m going to assume you’ve been influenced by @saidbyjess to read this, if not allow me to convince you further. This book is MAGICAL!!! It’s got such a well paced storyline and world building that I cannot wait to read more in this world. It reminds me of when I read HP for the first time all those years ago(too many years 20+

I enjoyed the heck out of this. It's a lovely, fun addition to the "supposedly ordinary child discovers they're magical and is introduced to a magical society and school" genre of books. One thing that makes this book so effective is that it's thoroughly grounded in Amari's life and family outside of the magical world, and she continues to interact with her mother and community even as she's brought into the magical world. It allows the stakes to have more visceral weight and meaning than a lot of similar books.

The plot is a little predictable for an adult reader, but that's to be expected for a middle-grade book, IMO.

Excellent. This book was pretty much everything that I forgot that I loved about middle grade fiction. It almost made me feel like I was reading the Lightning Thief for the first time again. I cannot wait to read the sequel (and to keep an eye out for more middle grade books in the future).

This book is about A girl Amari Peters searching  for her missing brother Quinton but she had no leads so when she finds a ticking briefcase in his closet with a nomination for a summer tryout for the bureau of supernatural affairs the same place her brother went to shes certain that the place holds the key to finding her brother and accepts the nomination.
I really enjoyed this book as it talked about a serious issue being racism and how it brought it up in a way that integrated it in to the story. I also liked how diverse it was with its cast of characters all being equally different. well I liked all the characters I have to say Elsie was my favorite  because of her love of inventing and the fact that she is a Were-dragon with the ability to see peoples emotions, overall I think she was a well written character. There's nothing I would change about the book. I recommend this to anyone who likes magical adventure stories with lots of twists.

This was a fun book to read. It’s a mix of Men in Black, Harry Potter, Percy Jackson and Nevermoor. I loved the characters in here, especially Amari. She is very compelling and I root for her ever time.

However, my biggest complaints was how the story was told. Sometimes problems were just solved just because they needed to in order to progress. I didn’t feel completely in the world and the magic wasn’t explained very well. It could have been a bit longer to build those elements and some of the draggy bits taken out.

Definitely would recommend to younger readers who love the titles I mentioned above.

Thanks to Edelweiss for a copy of the eARC in exchange for my honest review.

This was definitely a middle grade book. It's harder for me rate those since I don't read too many and it's hard to compare. Overall, it was an okay story.

The one note that I do have is on the audiobook. I would recommend reading a physical or ebook copy of the book. The narrator for the audiobook had so many unnatural pauses while speaking, that it was distracting and took me out of the world of the book.
