the story is the effects of atomic bomb and how it affected the lives of this pariticular bomb

overall i felt the story was very captivating and i was urging to know what happened after that and also the action of folding one paper crane for every page of the special book given by his father to find his friends sister is a very meaningful action

i really liked the story in general and also there’s even a tutorial on how to fold a paper crane at the back as welll as an origami paper and i thought that detail was very thoughtful

finished the book within one sitting :)

I had never heard of this book before but read it after having seen it recommended. This book was as beautiful as it was heartbreaking. It takes you on such an emotional ride.

The story follows Ichiro in the immediate aftermath of Hiroshima and also jumps to scenes seventy years later. Drewery does not shy away from describing the horrific effects of the nuclear bomb, but it feels very considerate in the way it is written.

The characters are really well written, they felt very realistic. I was very quickly invested in their stories, and was routing for them throughout the book.

I do feel like I missed out a bit by listening to the audiobook rather than reading a print version. The story contains verse and haiku poems that I felt just didn't come across well in the audio version. And of course I didn't get to see the illustrations.

This is an incredible story that has some horrifically sad moments juxtaposed with wonderfully happy ones, and a plot that keeps you hooked throughout. I would definitely recommend this one, although with the warning that it really covers the traumatic aftermath of the bomb in detail.

I cried. A lot. But, it was worth it. If you're looking for sad book, this is perfect.
