Elliott Chaze wrote probably my favorite noir novel, Black Wings Has My Angel. Unfortunately, every other book of his is out of print and really hard to find. This is the first I've been able to track down. It's obviously a more minor effort -- a transparently goofy mystery in which small-town Alabama politicians are being murdered by a Bible-obsessed killer with a slingshot. And yet, the narrative voice is still so sharp and fun. In an utterly trashy way, yes, but there's an old-fashioned pleasure to that.
This guy wrote at least seven more books. I hope I can hunt up at least some of 'em.
