I’ve heard so many negative reviews for this book that I want in the really low expectations. I think because of that I enjoyed it a lot more than I expected.. They were definitely plot holes, and definitely pacing issues, but I think some of those will be resolved in the next books. I definitely do plan on continuing the series which was a big surprise for me.

Basic story. Fantasy, but not fantasy. Nothing surprising. Written well. The characters had a good voice.

This book was hard to get through due to the boringness of the plot and lack of romance.

Good, but I didn't think this was written with the same flair as her other books. The pacing seemed off throughout, and the climax was slightly anticlimatic. Still a fun and easy read, but nothing on Vampire Academy or Succubus.

I didn't read this book for the main character. I mean I'm a big fan of YA but this was just trope after trope and I feel tricked because I never found out about the characters I actually cared for, it was an okay read but definitely doesn't measure up to Mead's past works. I'll read the next books in the series and hopefully I won't be let down.

After reading this book I feel like I need to go through and really change the way I rate books. When I started this book my expectation were low based on previous experience with the author. That being said, I picked up this book as a way to kill time. There are problems with this book, there are problems with every book, like the details of the religions not being flushed out, the arcs of the characters, and the not so flushed out settings. However, there are some really interesting characters that I found myself wanting to know more about. They just were not the main character in this book. Which is why I will be reading books two and three.

To be honest, this book is somewhat confusing. There were parts that could have easily been left out as well as information that was missing from the text. It would be a great series story line but didn't not paint enough information in order to become a series. Too many questions in the end and could have ended 200 pages earlier than it did.
