You can read the whole review Here :)

The story is awesome with the time jumps back to second world war and some of the people there. And Jo have done great work to make the history and past woven together with the present. You get a lot of clues trough out the book and, maybe I’m just stupid. but I could not for my life figure it all out hand how it all hanged together. I had my theories. In the end I did get a clear picture and felt really satisfied by that.

I found this to be way too unnecessarily complicated, and I didn't feel too invested in the outcome. Sets up the next book, with a plot I care much more about, very nicely though.

I have read other books by Nesbø which I liked. This one was unnecessarily convoluted.

I hesitate to write anything because this book's twists and turns are part of its charm and would be ruined by spoilers. Suffice it to say that I fell for the main character, wonderfully voiced by the outstanding audible.com narrator, and am very much looking forward to listening to the next in the series. I am sure there are more, because several key loose ends remained at the end of this book.

I liked this one better than [book:The Bat|17345209], but didn't find it nearly as gripping as my favorite (and first) Nesbo read, [book:The Snowman|9572203]. The pace builds very slowly, but not without high-tension moments and a few nasty shocks. The climax had me riveted as well. Harry is cut from the hard-boiled detective mold, but his flaws (and occasional self-deprecating humor) do a lot to humanize him. I found some of the side characters--specifically the old soldiers--hard to keep straight, which left me a bit confused during some of the more complex plot tangles, but I do plan to pick up the next one, whenever I'm in the mood for a cold-weather crime read.

Okay, I love Harry Hole. I have been putting off reading these books by Nesbo and decided it was finally time to read the first book translated in to English. I'm glad I did. The book is fast paced and fun without giving away too many clues as you read. You do figure out who the murderer is before the big reveal but it is fun to see how Harry gets there. Well worth looking into!
