Valentina Ramirez has had a crush on her best friend Winnie's older brother, Chevy Boyd, ever since she was a teenager, but she's never pursued her feelings because she didn't want to risk losing Winnie as a friend. Besides, Chevy's always thought of Val as a little sister - or so she thinks. When her beloved Aunt Mari announces that she's moving to Costa Rica to care for a sick relative, Val realizes that it's time for her to make a change too. She decides to accept a mentorship opportunity with an artist friend of her aunt's, hoping that putting some distance between her and Chevy will allow her to move on from her crush at last. The problem is that Mari's already sold her house, including the garage apartment her niece calls home, so Val needs a temporary place to stay while she ties up a few loose ends in Sheet Cake. Learning that Val's leaving seems to spark something in Chevy, who impulsively invites her to move into his guest room. Will sharing such close quarters finally change the dynamics of Chevy and Val's relationship?

Val and Chevy's story absolutely melted my heart. In addition to overcoming Winnie's objections to their relationship, which were completely understandable, they each had individual baggage to work through before they were ready to commit to each other. I loved how patient Val was with Chevy as he struggled to work through his fears, as well as how protective he was of her in return. They could not have been more perfect for each other, and their HEA was immensely satisfying.

I highly recommend "The Pocket Pair" for all sweet/closed door contemporary romance and rom-com fans. The next book in the series can't get here soon enough for me!

Chevy and Val—woo! They did not disappoint! Their story is a best friend’s brother, small town, forced proximity trifecta with so much heart, plenty of swoon, and lots of laughs.

Things I Loved:
-“I listen, because at times, listening is an easy kindness to offer. Especially to someone who’s lonely.”
-“You shouldn’t spend your life fighting ghosts.”
-Aisle of embarrassment
-Face yoga 😂
-“True best friends are your Rick Astleys”
-Butt battle
-Velveeta everything
-Old spice
-Neighborly App, as always
-“If there were a serial killer, he picked the wrong town. Nosy people on Neighborly would have him caught before he even attempted murder.”
-“No one tosses a dwarf.”
-“No one else’s mistakes have to be yours.”
-Peeping Sheeters
-“Mistletoe” 🤣
-THAT KISS
-Cheval
-“It’s the least I can do if the man’s going to help me put on pants.” 😂
-Three squeezes ♥️
-The WHOLE ending and epilogue

I love how stinking much these two cared for each other even in the midst of the hardest situation and Chevy’s struggle and growth was done so well. If you haven’t been to Sheet Cake, TX yet, what’s taking you so long?! You can enjoy this as a stand alone, but it was extra delightful seeing more of our favorite Sheeters throughout.

Trigger Warning: (All PAST) death of parents, parental abandonment, and parent having an affair

The Pocket Pair is book 3 in the "Love Stories in Sheet Cake, Texas Series" but it can be read as a standalone. I love this little quirky fictional town. Val & Chevy have known each other for a long time. He's her best friend's older brother. Yes, that trope! It's also got friends-to-more and forced proximity tropes. Because this is a dual POV book (my fave), we get to read both of them secretly pining for each other. It's so good! Val has to move into Chevy's spare bedroom and the tension they have knowing they're so close to each other, whew. I say this every time I review Emma's books, she knows how to write swoon-worthy kissing scenes. I love that this series is full of humor and funny side characters. And these covers, they look so good together.  The Pocket Pair was my favorite read in June. 💕
Thank you to the author for the free book.

72% DNF for now 2⭐ Why is this so boring. There's no tension no angst but also no fluff or cuteness. The characters are just bland & immature. I couldn't care less. I truly feel like I'm wasting my time
