Another gory episode in the life of DS Logan McRae from Aberdeen Scotland, perhaps the goriest so far, and with and international touch. This is a good read because of the mix between the police life and the private life. I really like this series of books.

The only detracting factor is the ending. I thought this was a bit of let down and inconclusive. It was almost as if the book had to be finished by a give time and the author ran out of time.

Just as good as the ones before it. It saddens me that with each book I finish I’m that much closer to the last published book in the series. I hope this series goes on and on for many years to come.

Spoilers maybe:

DC Rennie wasn’t in this episode as much as I like but DI Steel was abundant. I really enjoy the McRae/Steel partnership/friendship. Steel is not only a huge point of comedic relief but she’s a “no bullshitting” cop. I love how she gets right in the thick of things and doesn’t care what/how people think of her. As much as I want Logan promoted I want him and Steel to keep working closely together and the power of rank Steel always pulls is a source of amusement when it’s heaped on Logan.

Best one of the series so far for me. Ultra dark noir, really, but the black humor had me laughing out loud even when appalled by what had just happened.

Not for the faint of heart.
