This was really really good. Very existential and contemplative. Beautifully written and wholesome.

Another fantastic book from becky chambers. The only real flaw I can call out in this book is the technical details and science left my head spinning a bit. For such a short book I thought I'd have it read in no time but the technical jargon slowed me

This is my third Becky Chambers book and guess what? She continues to never disappoint, ohmygosh! I haven't read too much sci-fi this year, but this made me want to dive right back into it. I loved the exploration and seeing it through the eyes of our researchers. Getting glimpses of the difficult questions between wanting to learn, to understand, to explore versus the threat of harm, colonization and invasion was fascinating. And the end...god, why are all her books so heartbreaking and healing in equal measure?

Look if I was on the other end of the email, this would have gone to junk
Great story, took a lot of time to get to the end

Written like a journal of the MC Ariadne on the crew’s journey of exploration and observation on the new terrestrial planets/ moon. It’s quiet, full of wonder and read like a slice of life. I can finally understand why people love Chambers and her writing - despite everything that was happening there’s always a sense of hope with very loveable characters. I felt their joy and sense of fulfilment from discoveries of new emergent or extraterrestrial life forms even when their roles were just to observe and catalogue, nothing more.
This novella reminded me why I was always intrigued by space exploration and how biology has always been my favourite branch of the sciences - what’s more when it’s astrobiology?!?
