I wanted to read some fantasy, so I picked up this book. At first, I had a hard time getting into it, for some reason. But the second half of the book got better.
It did a good job at combining the fantasy elements and the war that was going on around Ofelia. The illustrations were also really beautiful.
Overall, it was a solid read.

Very nice novelization of the movie. It's YA, definitely not for little kids. Like in the movie the humans are scarier than the fictional monsters. But there are also humans with beautiful, resilient, rebellious souls. A very real fantasy horror.

Disclaimer: haven't seen the film.

It's basically Spanish Spirited Away or Narnia. If you like stories like Fran Bow, The Cruel Prince, and macabre fairytales, this will be right up your alley.

A lovely and creepy fairy tale that was such an adventure to read! I really adored how the story was broken up between what was happening and the more legend/fairy tale events of the past. There are so many details that weave together so beautifully that at the end I wanted to reread it again, just to see the small hints and foreshadowing. I rented it from the library but I already know that this is a book I'm going to have to buy so I can mark all of the lines and pages that spoke to me (and there were a lot!)
Adored this book and I cannot wait to read it again.
