I picked this up because it looked like an interesting quick read. It was interesting but I didn't read it as quickly as I would of liked mostly cause life happened, but also because sometimes I got bored and didn't feel like continuing. Honestly I thought of DNFing it but then I thought I'm almost done! Don't do that. Anyway on to the review.
It had a romance and I'm kind of disappointed that it did. I wasn't really expecting one and I thought it was mainly gonna be focused on Pelly dealing with her mental health and the fact that she saw her kidnapped best friend at her job. It kind of bothered me cause I felt like it was gonna make it the whole girl gets a boyfriend and suddenly her mental health gets better! trope but thankfully it didn't really happen that way. I wasn't really interested in the book until the endish when things started happening. Don't get me wrong I loved David and he treated Pelly really well, but I would've rather it had been just about Pelly and the kidnapping.

What I Did Like:
-Penelope! Right from the start I was dropped into her head and feeling exactly what she felt. Considering we start on page 1 with a panic attack, that was intense. I felt myself wanting to breathe with/for her! Throughout the book she is WELL written and it’s a great glimpse into panic attacks.
-David. He’s a genuinely good guy and I like him right away. He’s being cautious and guarded, but he’s also helping in any way he can.
-Thrilling second half. The book definitely reminds you that you’re dealing with a mystery/thriller with that solid ending. I hit a spot where I was just not going to be able to put it down. It gives you that great feeling of fear and anticipation that thrillers are named for.
Who Should Read This One:
-Readers who like thrills without being completely immersed in a scary story.
-Readers who want a character with realistic depiction of panic attacks.
My Rating: 4 Stars. This one will appeal to contemporary fans who like thrills.

i mean......it wasn't the worst book. i read it in one sitting, which i guess counts for something. the writing style reminded me a bit of my own which worried me a little, but the ending was better than i expected. certainly wasn't what you'd think it'd be.

meh; another fine book, but it didn't knock my socks off. I could've did without the awkward love interest bit -- seemed a bit forced. I would've rather they had just been friends. or not friends at all, even.
