Much like other recent books about ending gender violence, this book was maddening and inspiring in equal measure. Truly understanding the scope and entrenched nature of the problem takes a toll on a reader, but I deeply respect Professor Hill for her longterm advocacy and thorough analysis. I also appreciate her willingness to talk about the challenges she's faced during and after her testimony in 1991 and the many folks who've shared their stories with her as a result of her openness. At times the writing/stories could be repetitive, but overall the book is meant to be thorough and is very compelling. A must-read, especially for those who want to end gender-based violence in the US.
Minor: Ableism, Adult/minor relationship, Bullying, Child abuse, Colonisation, Domestic abuse, Emotional abuse, Gaslighting, Genocide, Gun violence, Hate crime, Homophobia, Incest, Lesbophobia, Murder, Pedophilia, Physical abuse, Police brutality, Rape, Sexism, Sexual assault, Sexual harassment, Sexual violence, Stalking, Suicide, and Trafficking
Mentions are brief but the topics are all discussed as part of the theme of gender violence.
