There wasn't much wrong with it. And I loved all the plants it just didn't hold my interest.

I can't say I was familiar with this particular fairy tale - so a friend sent a link to listen to it.

But, without knowing the fairy tale I can say this book is simply amazing. The writing is poetic and flowing. The story achingly beautiful. My heart hurt for Tyhr and his situation. But even more so I hurt for Astrid.

Imagine your life being set for you - married off to an unknown man since you were a child. An enchanted ring slipped onto your finger and a promise made that you must fullfill.

But Astrid's life was suddenly torn apart. In a matter of time she loses her mother, then her older brother, and lastly her father whom she loved dearly. But then a letter appears with bills and train tickets - a summons from a husband she has never met.

Can her fractured, broken heart be reached? Out of duty and a sense of honor she goes to the man she has never known. Driven by a promise to her dying father to keep a promise he made before she was even born.

Can duty turn to love?
Do kisses always break curses? Or does it take sacrifice and love?

A journey of self-discovery. Two stories locked together by one ring and a promise made. One curse that spans hundreds of years. An evil enchantress who will stop at nothing to claim what she wants as hers. Unlikely friendships, worlds beyond time, dangerous creatures, harrowing adventures and the four winds to help her along.

This is one of the most captivating books I have read this year. Kathryn Trattner I certainly hope there are more to come!!

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I have enjoyed all of Kathryn Trattner’s books and this was no exception. This was a fantastical story of Astrid, someone betrothed all her life but never meeting him. Her whole family is gone and she receives a letter to go and meet him. We follow Astrid as she meets her betrothed, loses him, then journeys across the world to get him back.

This is a very detail rich story on a short timeline. I feel like the book could have been longer, or cut some scenes out, just by how much has been packed in.

I really enjoyed the lyrical way the story was written.

Astrid was lost and alone after her while family died. Tyhr was the light she didn't know she was looking for.

I loved the quest she went on to save him and the snippy side kick off Chinook was perfect.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I would have rated this 4 stars but the book really caught my attention at 50% of the way through. I really wish we could have had more romantic developments between the love interests.

I feel like this book couldn’t decide if it wanted to be written like a fantasy or an epic. The first half was much more slower pace read much more like a fantasy. The second half much more like an epic and was very jumpy with multiple time hops and not a lot of reasoning behind the events besides oh well magic exist now so it’s fine.  I would be fine with this reading like an epic the first half didn’t make me think it was going to be a more traditional love story. Maybe it’s because I hadn’t read the original story this one is based off of, but overall it didn’t give me that uuuph I want in a book.
