Completely wacky and beautiful. Mayor of the Universe is a wonderful story about the power of imagination and the importance of having fun. Fletcher's adventures are a reminder to take yourself a little less seriously and do the things you enjoy. The aliens in this story are both childlike and incredibly wise without being too over the top. Completely unlike anything I've read before and I look forward to reading more by Lorna Landvik.

I adore Lorna Landvik's books, as a rule. And I am not one to say that an author has to follow the same formula all the time or I won't enjoy his/her work. I also wouldn't say that I didn't enjoy this book. However, it is different. While reading, I kept getting the feeling that I was reading someone's creative writing class assignment. It didn't gel completely for me. However, parts of it are interesting and fun and I certainly liked the characters.

I agree with a lot of reviews saying that this book was hard to get through. I'm not entirely sure if it was the book, or if the subject matter was just not my style. The writing itself wasn't all that bad, so I would actually be really curious to see what some of this author's other books are like because I may very well like those. Slow book, one that I put down on numerous occasions to read something else instead.
