Just...wow. What an amazing installment in the Waterfire Saga. The worlds created are so rich in detail, along with the characters and how they are growing. This book had a major plot twist I did not "sea" coming.

Saw that plot twist coming an ocean away but still a very enjoyable read!

Even though there are a lot of points of view, which I normally don’t like, I loved the books. I must admit that it was quite confusing at first, because there are quite some names and I kept forgetting who was who. Still, as soon as I started, I couldn’t put it down. Bought the second one right after, same thing with the third. Sadly the fourth isn’t in my language (and I’m not going to buy three books in my language and one in a different one, because I’m just not like that) yet, so excited on how it will all end. Loved it!

OH MY GOD. SO good. That was literally all that I could say for a good couple of minutes after closing this book. This is EASILY one of the best books I've read so far in 2015. I absolutely cannot wait for the third book to come out in October. This book was just spectacular with those plot twists, I mean seriously, who was actually able to anticipate most of those? I surely was not, my family thought I was insane being locked up in my room squealing and just shouting and then crying all the tears. I'm just speechless, I absolutely, 100% recommend this series to anyone who hasn't picked it up, so action packed and the world and that history is just mind-blowing. So freaking good. 5 out of 5 all the way for me.

This one was definitely better than the first book. I haven't been able to put it down. I'm really liking this series and I didn't think I would.

I gotta say it though...the last page, with the rearranging of the villain's name. Rafe Iaoro Mfeme = I am Orfeo fear me. Am I the only one that drew an immediate parallel between that and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets? I'm all for sharing ideas, but that seems a little bit too similar...not sure how to feel about it.

MINOR SPOILERS

I really enjoyed this read, it took me a while to get back into it but once things started to speed up I was hooked, Donnelly is great at creating her own unique world.

My favourite part of this book: Actually love the idea of the infanta being a ghost and the ship collapsing when she leaves? So clever. Go Donnelly!

As well as this, I particularly like the mirror world where Rorrim feeds on people’s fears, danklings, the people trapped in the mirror is a cool idea too, I don’t think anyone else has done this sort of thing and it’s fab – but it is quite deep and kinda sad too which adds another level to the book.

I also really appreciate that Neela’s parents didn’t believe her about everything that’s been going on… sometimes you read a book and it’s so irritating when people immediately believe someone when they’re word vomiting all of this ridiculous crap without even a small bit of doubt. That doesn’t stop Neela’s parents being annoying though. Have a cookie Ms. Donnelly for doing a fab job of that.

There also seems to be a lot of strong women in this saga, obviously all the main characters are female and Sera's mum was the leader of their people but now there's Kora. Sometimes the feminist thing can get annoying in books but this seems to work. I don’t know if it's because they're mermaids and therefore it just seems logical that the woman should take charge, but regardless - in this case the feminist thing seems to work.

I’ve just looked up the release date for the next book; October time – which is nice because it means I don’t have to wait too long for the last book but that’s for a hardback cover, so I’ve preordered a paperback, which won’t be available until next April… I may get the hardcover edition out of the library when it’s released though.
