Powerful novel. As in All Quiet On The Western Front, Remarque portrays war (ww2 this time) as the horrific and ruthless thing that it is  - and still shows the humanity that is left among soldiers and people back home, the hope and despair, the unknown, the mundane and the monoton every day lives. And all of this is done using beautiful words and such an elegant language - that it almost hurts in its beauty. I‘m gonna read all of Remarques works eventually and I urge you to make this one a prirority on your reading list.
