I truly enjoyed this read & highly recommend the audiobook read by Jeanette herself. It gives an extra personalization to her already strong voice in her writing. The stories had me on the edge of my seat, for better or for worse. I found myself sitting in my car just to hear her out to the end of every one. The way she writes is truly eye-opening for those that haven't experienced the effects of CPTSD and is validating for those who have. This made me excited to see where McCurdy takes herself next with her newfound freedom. Smart, witty, and jaw-dropping. Loved it.

“I yearn to know the people I love deeply and intimately—without context, without boxes—and I yearn for them to know me that way, too.”

I always feel weird about rating non-fiction books because they are so personal to the author and giving it a star rating wouldn't be the right way to go about it. However, this book is 5 stars worthy. It took my a while to get through it because some parts just hit too close to home. The writing (I listened to this on audiobook because Jennette actually narrates it herself and I would highly recommend consuming this book that way!), it's unfiltered and raw, and uncomfortable at times– but it's a book that everyone must read.

5 stars.

this book is so beautifully written, with its complex characters and real storyline, every word on every page hits home. Jennette is an amazing writer and this book is gut-wrenchingly beautiful . reading about her past and how far she had come is so inspiring. so thankful for this book and the complex but beautiful plot.

Incredibly heartbreaking, distressing, and also funny and well written. I enjoyed listening on audiobook because Jennette’s voice brought so much to the words, especially when she does voices of other people in her life.
