It would be wrong to give this book anything but five stars. This is Jennette's story and I'm so proud of her for telling it. Make no mistake, this book can be hard to read. Some truly awful things have happened to her. I can't even begin to get into it, not only because I shouldn't. Trying to summarize these experiences wouldn't do justice to the impact they had on Jennette, and context is important to understanding the depth of her trauma. I cried multiple times, and my jaw dropped at the end of every other chapter. Truly, this woman has led an unbelievable life that demanded so much from her, and the mere fact of this book's existence is a mark of healing. I can't say I enjoyed reading it because that seems like an inappropriate word; this was a gut wrenching experience. But my enjoyment isn't really the point. Jennette, I hope you wrote this book for you, and that you got to say everything you wanted to say, and that you are as proud of this accomplishment as you've made me feel. I really don't think anybody else's opinion matters.
