Love that this followed a few characters, but the main character was a older woman.

A great look at prophecies.

The premise of the story of a prophesised hero who is actually not what he is supposed to be, drew me in, and the book and story did not disappoint.
I'm not sure if it was a combination of life + book or just the story that had me take such a long time to finish it. The story was really fascinating and even though it sometimes switches between characters never felt too crowded (there were three main povs the story jumped back and forth) or fragmented.

There were parts of this book that were easily 5 stars...the take chosen one trope was particularly great and the mentor/mentee relationship was likewise wonderful. But there were four perspectives in the book and until the end, I wasn't loving two of them. 3.5 stars rounded up because of how much I enjoyed seeing Tiashi and Jian's arcs. Cautiously optimistic for the second book...I'm willing to bet that the relationships just get better and the four arcs that seemed separate in this book continue to influence each other.
