I AM SAD

the writing is pretty much all i struggled with in the book but having listened to the audiobook it had a huge effect on my enjoyment. i appreciated a lot of the discussions this book touched on, such as POC artists creating work in a world of white supremacy, but unfortunately... i found myself thinking thinking "no this is too much" with the inner dialogues too often. had i read a physical/e-copy it might've been a 3 star. oh well...

Definitely interesting themes explored here. Reminded me of We Will Not Cancel Us in the exploration of people of color “canceling” other people of color. It’s messy, and Rukmini and Neela really feel like individuals with insecurities and flaws.

The music scene aspect was dull for me because I’m not into music enough and I don’t often like books about art that aren’t largely a critique of it. I did enjoy this issue of who creates good music and how does it gain popularity.

Some of the commentary here felt too on the nose and explicitly stated to be as thought provoking as it could be. It’s also a story of realism which is not my preference. I like it when women go off the rails

Some cute Toronto moments and poignant reflections on friendship/friendship breakups, but I felt like it lost a lot of momentum in the back half.
