I’d heard a lot of great things about this book, so I ended up giving it a shot. Once you get past the edgelord bullshit, it reads like an ultraviolent satire on normalcy, addiction, and the futile desire to be “unique.” There’s only one particular section I… skipped… but I could feel it was probably coming and was on the lookout for it.  I only have a handful of “hard limits”, but this book managed to hit one or two of them.

Overall, trying to be as objective as possible, I think it was mediocre, edging on bad. Could do without  the Try-Hard edginess, but I think there actually *was* a decent, intriguing love story hidden inside the shock value. I would not recommend this book to any other living soul.

Somehow I’m more upset by the MC’s “I’m not like other girls” vibe, throwing fits when called normal or told he still unfortunately is a part of society than by his nefarious deeds.

I think I understand what Chandler Morrison was trying to do with the first person POV and the narrator's tone, but it came off as a YA fiction monologue most of the time. Every time the narrator would go into his "I'm different than others/I'm better for this/I'm weird and fucked up, etc" monologues, I kept hearing that scene from Riverdale, the "I'm weird. I'm a weirdo." Overall, I wish Morrison had done more research into psychology and forensic pathology before writing.

I wish Morrison would have given us (readers) something meaningful to ponder while reading, something that made all the fucked up parts of the book significant. Right now, it all feels two dimensional, like it's all there just for shock value.

That being said, if you are looking for a short horror read that will astonish you with all the fucked up things a person can do to another, it's worth giving this book a read. There were times where I legitimately brought my hand over my mouth in horror.

First book I’ve ever DNF. I’m on an extreme horror kick currently so I wanted to give this a try but almost halfway through this book I still felt as if it was written by an edgy teenage boy.

It seems like reviews are either “this is the worst book I ever read, I love it.” or “this is the worst book I ever read, I hate it”, but all the good reviews have no commentary about the actual substance of the book, they’re all just “well that was gross.” I understand feeling as if a book must be good because it gave you a visceral reaction but l personally need a little bit of substance with my violence.

CHECK THE TRIGGER WARNINGS! Do not! Read this book without checking the trigger warnings first, the main themes are cannibalism and necrophilia.

This book is not for everyone, it contains very disturbing and dark themes, and the descriptions are graphic and disgusting. I read it because it was recommended on a one-sit read TikTok I came across, with no warnings, and saw everyone in the comments talking about how this book shouldn't be recommended so casually which I agree with- do not recommend this book to someone without at least letting them know they should look up the TW's for it.

Point us I got curious and since I don't mind fucked up fictional content, decided to check it out.

As I said,  I don't mind fucked up fictional content....when it's well-written and executed properly. But this is written in a way where the purpose is just to shock the audience, and that's not the type of horror I like; I am giving it 1 1/4 stars because it was slightly interesting towards the end and I liked the final twist.

Not a book I would recommend. Not a book I would read again.

Nope nope nope.
Horrible book. Fucked up. Clearly written by a man, the personality of the main character is cringe and annoying.
I've been super into horror lately but this is just mindless fucked up. First DNF of my reading stint this year. No thank you.

Morally and creatively repugnant. I feel like I should be on a watchlist for even reading this book.

A necropheliac falls in “love” with a cannibal and his life changes.

Disgusting, depraved, creatively bankrupt. The writing is good and that accounted for 2 of the 2.25 rating.

The content is disgusting without merit. To be devoured and tender is the flesh are both gross books but they are actual stories. This is pornographic shock and awe .

Yes, it was gross. I was prepared it to be gross. But I didn't find any reason for the grosness, no actual deep point that justifies it and my continuation of reading it.
If there's some clever ending, I won't know. And I doubt it would be worth it.
