This book started off on a good note, but it ended up dragging on for me and took too long to read for a book that only had 160 pages to it. There was too much nonsense chatter between some of the characters that ended up going nowhere and then the book just ended. The typesetting on this book was messed up. Words were either bunched together or spread out. It was very distracting.

The book is short, the story-line is simple, the plot is straight-forward. What it really comes down to is how much you, as reader, enjoy the writing. Though it is simple, it's well done and I enjoyed the writing and the novel to a point. However there were no real surprises. Another reviewer described it as a middle-of-the-shelf read, which is a term I've never heard before, but I think sums it up nicely.

Very put-downable. Took me much longer to read than it should have given its very short length.
Still, the story wasn't awful even though it wasn't the most engaging and the author does write the best Vermonters I have ever read, which is a pretty amusing to me since he's a flatlander. But he's got woodchuck speak down pat and that's a win in my book.

I don't know what was worse, the story, writing or the print. This is my first and last book by this author. Don't waste your time with this book.
