Don't you love it when you read a story and you can trace the lines from the narrative to a later publication by the author? The mechanical house is the early draft of [b:The Veldt|120555|The Veldt|Ray Bradbury|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1427983743l/120555._SX50_.jpg|116085](published September 1950). The fire consuming the human world, art, and memory is the brainstorming session for [b:Fahrenheit 451|13079982|Fahrenheit 451|Ray Bradbury|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1383718290l/13079982._SY75_.jpg|1272463] (published October 1953).
Isn't it just so neat to see how an author's mind always seems to return to grooves of certain tropes and themes? Isn't it fascinating to understand the origin of great works?

I don’t think I read books critically enough because I just feel bad for the house and the dog more than the dead people because at least they died fast and the house was freaking out as it burned which is a very alive thing to do

as many u.s. students have probably experienced, i have had to read this short story quite a bit throughout school. since i'm a military kid, i was exposed to this piece quite a lot, and every single time it left quite an impact on me. being a fan of sci-fi aside, i love it. i don't know. i would probably give a more technical review in the future or something, but i think about this short story constantly. the short story ever!!!!

i think my love for it may come partially from my intense interest in anything related to the 1950s. i wouldn't try asking me why, it just happened and now i'm like this

A haunting short story with poetic imagery set in a post-apocalyptic dystopian world. Bradbury, the master of short stories masterfully captures the eerie loneliness of a world devoid of humans. It raises profound questions about humanity, technological advancements and our environment. The title is borrowed from Sarah Teasdale's poem There Will Come Soft Rains, giving it a satirical twist.
