I was excited about the premise but just... couldn't get into it.

Great concept and layout, but disappointingly too long for it's premise.

Such a fascinating little novel. Pigs serves as a commentary on consumerism and how we readily discard things and people when we decide they've lost their value. I loved Stoberock's writing and how she crafted her characters, and the fact that the centralmost child needed glasses? As someone who's nearsighted like Luisa, I appreciated the way her vision impairment was captured. I wanted to know a bit more about the island itself—or rather, the adults living there and abusing the children—but I found the ending oddly satisfying.

I normally love weird books.

But for some reason this book felt confusing and strangely jarring. I am not sure whether the writing style, the narration or the story itself was less enjoyable. Something in this book just did not mesh with me.

Thank you to Libro.FM and the publisher for providing me with a copy of the audiobook. This does not impact my opinions, whatsoever.

a lovely little fable, one that could be reread several times and have different little meanings

Honestly? I'm not sure what to say about the book. The back says it's a dark inflected allegory, metephorical. And I suppose you can say that, but the narrative was on the nose almost the whole way through.

The book reminded me of Lord of the Flies. It was either because the story was about a bunch of children on an island trying to survive everything that is trying to kill them....or maybe it was the fact that once you throw a privileged, white boy into the mix everything goes to shit (I'm only half joking).

The melodic writing style was charming at first, then grew tedious, and then helped propell the narrative through all the insane bits. I don't know if I can say I would recommend this book though....probably give it the 50 pages test and if it ain't holding you then chuck it. You won't really "get" anything from reading this book, none of the characters are formed well enough to be very interesting, and you can probably guess the ultimate outcome from the book.
